Humidifier Questions and Answers?

What humidifier should we purchase for our home?
This will depend upon the location of the furnace in your home. For example if the furnace is in the basement with the return drop next to it and it is readily accessible, I would suggest a By-Pass Model 500 or 600 depending upon the size of your home. (Click here for a sizing chart) You could also go to a Power unit Model 700. If you have no access to your return drop, you have to install Model 700 on your warm air plenum. This Model should NOT be installed on the return drop. (See Diagram 1.)

What is a typical installation?
A diagram for a typical installation can be found here.

Where do I mount the unit.
A diagram for a typical mounting can be found here.

What Items come with the Humidifier?
An item is in the product description.

What extra items do I need to buy?
A complete list can be found here. I would suggest PCP4040 Motor. (current) sensing relay.

Does the installation manual come with my Humidifier?
See the product description. Click HERE for an online manual or visit the Aprilaire Website.

How often should I replace the water panel?
For best performance once or twice a year depending upon the hardness of your water.

Why is the water draining from my humidifier?
All of the Aprilaire flow-through humidifier incorporate a self-flushing action. This action flushes down the drain many of the mineral deposits left on the water panel from the evaporation process. This also cuts down on maintenance.

I have condensation on my windows. What do I do?
To eliminate this, follow the suggested setting on your humidistat. The lower the temperature drops the lower percent humidity you want, since your furnace is running more.

Which Aprilaire Humidifiers models do you carry?
We carry all models in stock and usually ship by the next business day after you place your order.

Can I install this myself?
We sell over 500 units a year that are self installed. We also have people to help answer any technical questions.

I have an older unit like models 110 & 112. Will the new model 700 fit?
You will have to do some minor sheet metal work. Check your model size.

No water is coming out of my humidifier?
Make sure your humidistat is set correctly, also make sure water is getting to the unit. Clean out the screen and orifice in solenoid valve. If everything fails replace the solenoid valve. Our pert number PCP4040 or 4041 or 4091 depending upon your model number.
